To be successful in using lean processes every person in the process must strive for continuous improvement. A developer is someone who develops code, a product, or even people. This talk will attempt to model what a healthy, non-siloed team looks like. At the heart of lean is a people-base system. Technically speaking, a developer might be someone writing code, but in lean terms a developer could be anyone that interacts with people or a product. From that stand point we all could stand to learn a little bit about how to develop. This session will be presented by two developers who work together and are aiming to improve everyday. We will discuss the practices we use and why, and attempt to model what a healthy, non-siloed team looks like. Over the last 9 months Richard has been working with a team that is not his own, but he has slowly moved from using the pronoun “you” to using “we”. He’s not on the team from an organization stand point, but is on the team when you consider what a team is. A team is a group of individuals aiming toward a common goal or vision. He has slowly been learning how to integrate himself into this companies culture and become a part of them. This has taught him quite a bit on how to get outside of himself and his desk and work with others around him.

Ryan is a software developer and consultant for Integrity Inspired Solutions. Ryan has been developing software professionally for the last decade and has worked on many different teams throughout that time. He noticed that the teams that worked well together and are the most productive have many of the same habits and techniques. He gained a passion for teaching others those techniques as well as learning new ones along the way. Ryan is a Kansas native who has lived in Olathe for the last 6 years with his wife and three children. He’s an active member and speaker in agile and javascript communities. He enjoys spending time with family, being an activist, and consuming lots of plants.
