Running a marathon is not an easy task. Participants can spend months preparing for it and need the right motivation and goals to succeed. Transitioning to a DevOps culture and related process can also feel like running a marathon. At Cerner, we started adopting Agile and Lean development in late 2008, but we didn’t start transitioning to DevOps till about three years ago. This talk will be a case study of what lead us to start thinking about DevOps, where we are in our DevOps marathon and where we should go, as we look to the future.

Shahzad started at Cerner in 2005 developing C++ and Java Millennium Services. In 2009 he switched roles to become a Technical Project Manager and since then, has been leading and coaching multiple teams developing using Lean and Agile methodologies. Currently, he is leading the Agile Center of Excellence at Cerner and is the project manager for Cerner’s Cloud Solutions, which involves working with platform core and user capability projects for cloud services, as well as collaborating with our Ops teams to create a culture of DevOps and facilitating deployments of code all the way into production.
